Day 1: Beneath the Waves – Snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay
Begin your journey with a plunge into the crystalline waters of Kealakekua Bay, where the underwater world is a vivid spectacle. Snorkeling at this marine sanctuary, also known as Captain Cook’s Monument, is like entering a vibrant, subaquatic paradise. Glide through crystal-clear waters teeming with colorful fish, and marvel at the stunning coral formations beneath. The storybook beauty of this bay, flanked by lush cliffs, is nothing short of mesmerizing.
Day 2: Fire and Fury – Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park
A visit to the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park is an absolute must. Here, the Earth itself is a dynamic canvas, with live volcanoes putting on a fiery spectacle. Stand at the edge of Kilauea Caldera and feel the Earth’s heartbeat. Witness the mesmerizing glow of molten lava and explore lava tubes that reveal nature’s artistry.
Day 3: Liquid Gold – Kona Coffee Plantations
Take a caffeinated detour to the Kona Coffee plantations, where you can savor the world-renowned Kona coffee. Amidst the lush, emerald hills, learn the art of coffee cultivation from passionate locals. Sip on freshly brewed java as you absorb the aroma of coffee blossoms and the legacy of the island’s coffee culture.
Day 4: A Hidden Gem – Horseback Riding in the North Plains
For those seeking an unexpected and unique adventure on the Big Island – for those seeking more than just sun and sand – we adore Paniolo Adventures. This exceptional experience takes you on a horseback journey through the ruggedly beautiful north plains, an area rich in history and natural wonder.
As you saddle up, you’ll become part of the island’s storied Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) legacy, riding through a working cattle farm perched on cliffs that offer breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. It’s a blend of culture, history, and awe-inspiring landscapes that you won’t find anywhere else. Paniolo Adventures offers a chance to explore the Big Island from a different perspective, one that’s both thrilling and deeply rooted in the island’s heritage.

Day 5: A Hike to Remember – Pololu Valley and the Black Sand Beach
Venture to the northern tip of the island for a hike that leads to Pololu Valley. As you descend to the valley floor, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of lush cliffs and the rugged coastline. Your journey culminates at a black sand beach, where the power of nature is on full display.
The hike itself is short, but intense. This is not for the faint of heart, quite literally. But the views and vibe at the basin are more than worth it – it’s like nowhere else on earth. Just remember, this is an extremely sacred place for the Hawaiian locals. Be respectful, pack out what you bring in, and take a moment to BREATHE once you arrive.
Day 6: Bliss at Hapuna Beach
On your sixth day in paradise, indulge in the sun-soaked beauty of Hapuna Beach, a gem that has earned its reputation as one of the top beaches in the United States and among the best worldwide. Nestled on the island’s western coast, Hapuna Beach beckons with its long stretches of pristine white sand. The moment your toes sink into the velvety shore, you’ll understand why this beach is so beloved.
Hapuna Beach is renowned not only for its powdery sands but also for its vast expanse. There’s ample room here to spread out, whether you’re seeking a secluded spot to read a book, build sandcastles with the family, or simply soak up the Hawaiian sun. The beach’s unique feature is the series of dramatic cliffs that frame its edges, creating an alluring contrast between the rugged beauty of the land and the serenity of the sea.
The Westin Hapuna is right next store to the public access beach, but if you don’t choose to stay at this hotel, public parking and access is one of the easiest I’ve ever experienced.

Days 1 – 8 (and beyond): Culinary Odyssey – Big Island Restaurants
Indulge your palate in the island’s gastronomic delights. Savor fresh seafood at beachside shacks or dine at upscale restaurants where locally sourced ingredients shine. Feast on succulent poke bowls, macadamia nut-crusted mahi-mahi, and tropical fruit delicacies, all while taking in the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
